Long Overdue : My Eidul Adha Eve

By the miracle of Eidul Adha , my auntie woke up & responded to Maya. She can't talk but nodded to what we asked her. She even wrote down what she wanted.....errrr......in jawi! Menggagau masing-masing nak membaca what my auntie wrote! Maklum lah.....she's sick.....so tulisan tu tak stable....tak de proper titik & what nots........FYI my aunt ni cikgu ajar mengaji. Terus-terusan incident baca jawi ni buatkan I , Maya & Nurhaza realizes that we must send our sons to an Islamic base school. Maya is having the same problem as me , trying to persuade her 50+ years old hubby to enroll her 7 year old son to an Islamic schools.

I've already hinted the idea to MP for Adriel since early this year but MP's not keen on the idea. He said macam torture budak pulak. Hahhhh???? Torture budak kalau belajar Islamic syllabus????? Pelik I. Rasanya better dari kecil we as parents induce the Islamic concept dalam minda anak-anak kita. Kalau dah besar panjang baru nak hantar anak pergi ke Islamic school , lagi laa haru coz depa dah boleh bantah & etc. If possible , I don't want to send Adriel to Sri Utama or other normal private schools but to an Islamic base private schools. I told MP off that I don't want Adriel to be like him.........suruh baca doa......katanya baca dalam hati. Suruh azan....pun azan dalam hati......suruh baca Quran , hmmmmm.......baca dalam hati jugak......tak nak lah I,,,,,,,,anak lelaki I jadi macam tu......macam P.Ramlee dalam Pendekar Bujang Lapok je........main baca dalam hati.......hehehe!

Back to my aunty , she's recovering. Her heart is responding to the morphine given last nite. She's breathing using minimal oxygen support. She'll be fine for now. Alhamdulillah. Cousin Maya called yesterday (Thursday , 3rd December 2009) to update me with my aunty's condition. She's in good hands.

While Maya was at the hospital with my parents , I cooked lunch at home. Maya made Sardine Berkuah earlier and now am frying some chicken with pounded chili & shallots. Senang je.

Goreng the ayam first.......

Then tumis the cili & bawang tumbuk.........bila cili dah garing sikit.......masukkan ayam goreng + some onion slices. That's it , ramai-ramai boleh makan.

While I was cooking.........my parents came back. They took care of my grumpy little baby......kes kepanasan laa , apa lagi....Tak de aircond , hmmmmm......kekwat budak bandar sesekali balik kampung. My fasting mom took the opportunity to sapu daun-daun kering kat luar rumah.

Yna jadi budak kampung kejap.......main sodok-sodok pasir dengan anak Maya , Luqman Hakim. MP dengan hubby Maya , Abang Ali dok perusah kereta. Tak habis-habis dari pagi tadi lagi. Entah apa yang depa godeh , I pun tak tahu. Dok ulang alik pergi workshop.

Lepas habis masak , I round-round kat luar rumah......

......ambil gambar Sang Lebah sedang menghisap madunya.......hehehe!

Then.........I made MP take me to my old Orange Bungalow *Banglo Oren to villagers then* in Kampung Aman , Pokok Asam. Here's where I used to live & grow up. I love this house. Kat tepi rumah ada anak sungai. Kat belakang rumah was hutan belantara & ada gelanggang silat my father.....ada kebun buah-buahan.....ada reban ayam belanda my late grandma. Masa kecik , I grew up eating only turkey and not chicken if we're at home. My grandma gemar bela ayam belanda. Memang banyak turkey dia. Besides that she breeds ducks as well. Every morning sebelum I pergi sekolah , I will collect telur itik.....fun sangat.

Dulu , kampung ni tak ramai penghuni Melayu kat area yang I duduk ni. Rumah I yang paling hujung sekali , the only bungalow in the kampung and betul-betul bersebelahan dengan gagasan bukit-bukit kubur Cina......hehehe! Siapa laa yang duduk , ye tak? Dalam gambar ni , tingkap yang terbuka kat atas belah kanan tu was my room.

Dah tinggal-kan rumah , gate pun dah tak de.......mat pet curi besi-besi pergi jual kat kedai besi buruk. Hantu betul!

Dalam kawasan rumah ni ada 3 pokok rambutan , rambutan merah - rambutan kuning & rambut tot.....a mixture of 2 colours , yellow & red.....very pretty. Isi memang best. Lekang & very juicy. Masa I datang hari tu , memang tengah musim rambutan......

Kalau babi panggang yang seekor-seekor tu memang dah biasa sangat I tengok. Sebabnya , the only way for these people to get to the temple is to pass by the road in front of my house. Adegan menangis-menangis belakang kereta mayat & Band Cina Mati yang kat atas lori tu memang dah lali dah I tengok. Luar & dalam Tokong Cina ni dah jadi kawasan permainan budak-budak kampung including me , masa kecik-kecik dulu. Apek yang jaga tokong ni OK , tapi banyak anjing kat tokong ni. Malam-malam tertentu......wohooooo! Ngeri je dengar anjing menyalak. Tambah-tambah pulak bila time balik dari mengaji......Mak Aiii!!!! Time tu lah anjing-anjing kat tokong tu nak menyalak! Tapi I dah biasa masa tu , tak ambil pot. Sekarang bila dengar anjing menyalak tengah-tengah malam......ada laa anjing tu nampak apa-apa.....kalau tak nampak perompak nak masuk rumah orang.......sure yang halus-halus......huhuhu! spooky haaaa........

Kalau masa perayaan Cheng Beng , kubur kat sini bertukar jadi cantik. Rumput & lalang kat sekeling kubur , semua clear. Very colourful with all the paper decorations & flowers & foods & fruits.......seriously beautiful. From early morning , ramai lah ahli keluarga si mati datang melawat kubur kat bukit Cina ni. Depa bersihkan kubur family masing-masing , sembahyang kat kubur tu , bakar colok & mesti tinggalkan pau cina yang berwarna-warni. Warna pink yang paling banyak sekali....also,,,,,,mesti depa tinggalkan buah-buahan yang elok-elok kat kubur tu. Bila depa balik je.......ramai laa budak-budak India dari kampung sebelah will come and collect pau & buah-buah kat kubur-kubur cina tu......hehehe! Logically , pau & buah tu tak de apa-apa , cuma diletakkan kat kubur tu je,,,,,konon nak kasi si mati makan.....hahaha! Apa lagi kena bedal laa dek budak-budak India. Ada jugak budak-budak Melayu yang kepala dajal turut sama sebat buah-buah kat kubur Cina tu.......

Used to be my playground. Main sorok-sorok lagi OK! Masa dulu , kalau time cuti hujung minggu , my mom will take me , my brother , cousins & some of my kampung friends to jog up hill of the bukit Cina. Dulu pukul 7 pagi gelap lagi......and we're already jogged dari kaki bukit , keliling bukit Cina , lalu kot kubur-kubur Cina tu sampai lah ke atas bukit. From the top boleh nampak parts of bandar Taiping , memang cool! Kat kubur-kubur Cina ni lah I dok berdating dengan my first boyfriend , Djohan Radzi (Joe).......hehehe! *met him back on FB* , I was 11 and he was 15 at that time. Pot dating memang kat kubur Cina........petang je , I naik bukit Cina sorang-sorang to this specific kubur and Joe will cross the small jungle from his house & panjat bukit Cina ikut jalan tikus...hehehe! to come and see me..........how adventurous kan.......time tu tak de ingat ular ke , babi hutan ke , takut jumpa hantu Cina ke.....Janji dapat dating kat tangga kubur Cina.......hahaha! Oh! My! What a memory......Berdating on a Chinese graveyard.....orang Cina pun tak berani buat macam I buat......hehehe!

More horror view of my old bungalow.......Kalau buat location cerita seram , sajak sangat nih.....huhuhu!

On the way back , I lalu depan another of my old 1 and a half storey bungalow in Taiping. Before my parents build the Orange Bungalow in Kampung Aman , we stayed here. My parents bought a piece of land & built this house. This house is situated near the Taiping Lake Garden. Dari rumah I ni boleh nampak Buaya Batu kat Taman Tasik Taiping tu. Kalau orang Taiping , mesti tau kat mana location Buaya Batu tu. Sekarang ni , lat satu rumah dari this old house of mine *tak sampai seminit pun dengan kereta* dah ada the newest hotel in Taiping , The Flemington Hotel. Zoo Taiping is only 2 minutes away from this old house of mine. The foot hill of cool and unspoiled Maxwell Hill is only less than 5 minutes away from my old place. Photos of Maxwell Hill here. How nice , ya......More info on beautiful Taiping , Heritage Town. If you visit Taiping , don't be terperanjat beruk kalau nampak ramai Mat Salleh in town , that's simply because in the 50's & 60's memang ramai British Army was stationed here , there's even a Commonwealth War Cemetery it's for askar British & etc yang mati masa menentang Jepun in World War 2. More pics here.

Taken right after my old home..........branches that naturally heads for the lake..........

Lepas dah walked down memory lane whole evening , I dragged MP to my favourite satay stall , Basri Satay at Cashier Market. I'm here for the satay perut. Not the perut yang texture macam towel tu tapi perut susu......alamak peeps! Sedap siol! The owner of the stall is my dad's friend , now anak dia dah take over. I asked Yna to look at the satay menu........suruh the tengok the word satay 'kelempung'.......That's satay paru.......dah bunyi macam nak makan pelampung / boya pulak.......hehehe!

Hmmmm........10 cucuks of luxurious satay perut for only me........yum yum yum! MP tak kaki.

So that was my Eidul Adha Eve this year.........seronok balik Taiping walaupun 2 hari je. Tapau some food for those at home. Balik rumah , sambung borak-borak dengan saudara-mara yang datang. Pukul 1 pagi masuk tidur. Esok nak raya. Masak apa kat rumah? Nothing. Wa tidur dulu.

  1. Beb, sayangnye your Bungalow Oren is all overgrown... why is it now abandoned? Ingat tak my old house kat Jalan Ampang tu? I dah lama tak visit, so sad to see it empty, but I think it's still sort-of maintained by TNB, even tho we had to move out because kononnya they were going to demolish and build staff apartments. That was more than 12 years ago...

btw my late grandfather was from Taiping actually; a big part of that side of the family is there, but I dah tak kenal, sebab jarang 'gi visit up north, last time I went I was probably Std 6! What a pity, kan? My grandfather was slightly rebellious, or adventurous, dunno, ended up in Seremban.

Thanks for sharing about Taiping, orang KL ni yg ada roots there found it really nice to read about it :)

  2. *lynne*.....after my grandparents died , tak de orang nak balik tinggal kat Taiping. both my parents is here.....my brother pun dah kat KL.....we don't have a big family on my mom's side , so ended up macam tu lah....bila lama tak balik.....ramai laa orang yang pecah masuk into the property even though we've locked up & etc.

after my grandparents died....my dads relatives yang ramai kat Taiping basically took furnitures & etc that's in the house....we don't mind coz we have no plans to take anything to KL. Kat sini rumah teres....mana nak sumbat barang2 from Taiping lagi....

that day masa I pergi , bukan saja gate hilang , pintu rumah pun dah tak de....hehehe! bumbung rumah yang asbestos tu pun orang curi....cermin tingkap......semua dah tak de....memang sedih laa , tapi no point nak baik-pulih rumah tu kalau tak de orang nak duduk situ.

Ya , I ingat bungalow you kat jalan ampang tu.....hmmmmm....no 197 ke kalau tak silap.....same case la with me. masa i baru datang KL i stayed at one of the old bungalow kat jalan u-thant , had to move coz katanya nak bina apa entah....tapi sampai sekarang ada lagi.

Owh!.....ada roots Taiping jugak la ye.....hehehe! cool! Sama laa macam my dad , kinda rebellious & adventurous,,,,,,tak pasal-pasal dari Kelantan - tinggal kat Taiping - kahwin kat KL - kerja kat Ipoh & ended up living in Taiping! I remembered that he in the early 80's he was about to pack & take us all to go stay in Germany coz he & a group of his hippy friends nak merantau! Few friends of my dad remained in Germany , married with kids and all.....

I love Taiping.......peaceful....kat sana terasa macam you hidup kat zaman dulu2....especially bila kat area lake garden. banyak bangunan masa zaman residen british is still in use. maybe one day bila you balik sini......we can drive up with our girlsfriends & lepak taiping sehari dua....hehehe! There's a lot of history here yang ramai malaysian sendiri tak tahu....

    Taiping has 40 'firsts'......the 1st landasan keretapi , 1st muzium , 1st public lake , 1st zoo , 1st jail , 1st airport , 1st english school.....banyak lagi yang pertama in the country. more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiping,_Perak

ok lah....dah jadi history lesson pulak....hahaha! take care babe.
